Steps to a Lustrous Shine

A well-shined pair of shoes is the mark of a well-groomed gentleman. And getting that perfect shine is not hard. It takes just a few minutes and can be completed in 5 easy steps.

Step One Use a hard hair brush to remove the dust from the shoe surface. Don't forget to clean the edge of the sole as well.

Use a shoe horn when wearing your shoes This saves the heel collar and counter from unnecessary wear and tear.

Step Three Apply a marble amount of shoe cream to soften the leather and replace the leather's natural oils. Using a clean cotton cloth or a shoe cream applicator massage it slowly in concentric circles onto the leather until the leather absorbs most of the cream. The cream should be a shade lighter than your shoes to cover scratches, or a neutral color for light colored shoe.

Step Four Apply shoe polish and apply it slowly onto the leather using a soft hair brush or a clean cotton cloth. Wax polish shines leather better than cream. Avoid liquid polish, it can dry out and crack the leather. Wrap the corner of the cloth around your first and second fingers of your dominant hand. Twist the remainder of the cloth to tighten the portion around your fingers and hold that part in the palm of your hand. Alternatively, you can also use a soft horse hair brush to apply the polish. Use a different one for each color of polish you use.

Step Five Allow the shoes to dry for 10 minutes and then buff the shoe with a soft hair polishing brush. Preferably a horse hair brush. Use a soft clean cloth to bring out a high luster.
